Whether you are travelling for business or pleasure, travelling does not have to sabotage your diet plans. With a little pre-planning, you can stay on your diet, lose more weight, or even splurge just a little. Always remember, know matter what, that even if you do stray from your diet plan, you do not have to quit all together , just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going.

If you are going to be flying, think about what you want to eat on that day, and stick to it. You can bring your own food with you and keep it in your purse, such as a bag of baby carrots, a small bag of almonds, a low-sugar granola bar or dried fruit. Airlines are charging now anyway for meals, and there are no substitutions with the airlines, so bringing your own food is healthier and less expensive. When the stewardess rolls the beverage cart down the isle, choose water. Water is great for flushing toxins, it has no calories, and it will keep you hydrated. Stay away from soda, juice and alcohol. All of those beverages affect your blood sugar levels and may make you tempted to choose less healthy food options if you get hungry.

If you have to eat out a restaurant, be assertive with your wait person and ask how the dishes are prepared. For instance, if you are ordering a salad, ask for the dressing to go on the side, or ask that the chicken not be fried. If you are ordering a sandwich, ask that the bread not be buttered and fore-go the mayonnaise. Remember that the free bread basket does not have to be eaten, and you can even request the wait person not bring it to the table if it is too much temptation. The waitstaff at the Bluegreen resort restaurants are familiar with guest diet plans, and are not offended if you ask for substitutions or modifications to a meal. Vegetables in place of french fries is a common request!

When you check into your Bluegreen Corporation resort, ask the concierge where the nearest grocery store is so that you can buy healthy snacks. Having a piece of fruit or some pre-cut vegetables with you to snack on will keep you from getting too hungry should your eating schedule be thrown off. Just like it’s a bad idea to grocery shop when you are hungry, it’s also a bad idea to walk into a restaurant famished. The temptations are too great! You can also ask the concierge to show you where the fitness room is, or where the closest jogging path is, or where the closest aerobics class is around town.

With a little planning and preparation, you can maintain your diet plans and even continue to lose weight if that is your goal. For more helpful tips on maintaining your diet plans while travelling, go to Fox News.

For the third year in a row, Travel Weekly has chosen Access America as the best travel insurance company. The Travel Weekly Magellan Awards honor the best travel industry providers in a wide range of travel categories including hotels and resorts, rental car companies, travel destinations, cruise lines, online travel services, airlines and airports, travel agents and agencies and tour operators.

Travel insurance can be a good thing to purchase if you feel that for any reason, your trip could be delayed or cancelled. When you are making your travel plans, consider things that may come up that would require any change fees or cancellation fees, and then weigh the cost of the fees against the cost of the insurance. Often times, the insurance premium cost is well under what you would pay out to the hotels, airlines and rental car companies if you have a change of plans. Travel insurance companies offer different plans so that you can pick one that best fits your situation.

Some possible scenarios that may delay or cancel your trip, and would be covered with a travel insurance policy, are a sick child, severe weather, the death of a family member or even an important work related event you cannot miss. Some of the fees associated with canceling a vacation could be flight change or cancellation fees, hotel cancellation fees and rental car fees. Make sure you find out what each of the cancellation policies are before purchasing.

If you are staying in a Bluegreen Corporation resort, the concierge will e-mail you their cancellation policy so that you understand the latest possible cancellation date without any penalties. The closer your arrival date is , the higher the cancellation cost is. A travel agent will also be able to help you determine what the airline, hotel and rental car cancellation policies are as well. For more information about Access America, visit their website or go to Market Watch for more on the Magellen Awards.

This last weekend, in Orlando, Florida, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and NASA’s Ames Research Center in California gathered together to discuss interplanetary travel. The two groups have created, and want to administer, a one year research program called the “100-Year Starship Study”. The reason for the number 100 is that scientists feel it will take that long to build a craft strong enough make the travel and approach the complex issues of human occupation in space.

In this study, students, professors and researchers are going to look at such items as building materials that would make the transport into space, health issues, how to divide interplanetary real estate, ethical questions, financing, and more. The one item everyone was in agreement with at the opening was that space travel within the next 100 years may be possible and NASA wants to be prepared.

Interstellar starship designs and advance propulsion systems required to traverse the 4.3 light years to the nearest star other than our own sun — Alpha Centauri, is daunting. Earth is 93 million miles from the sun and Alpha Centauri is 272,000 times farther away. There are time-distance issues with intersteller travel that will need to be addressed. The research topics covered were quite complex, such as “Modular Aneutronic Fusion Engine for an Alpha Centauri Mission”, a talk given by three Princeton scientists.

The symposium was open to the public, for free, because DARPA and NASA want to raise interest and let the public know that the issues they are confronting head on, are real. Bluegreen Corporation resorts are in Orlando, Florida, close to the convention, and are able to host guests for the next symposium. For more information on this event, go to Popular Mechanics.

New Hampshire is a lovely place to visit in the fall. There are delicious apple and maple farms to visit, the beautiful colors of the changing leaves, cool, crisp weather and the Keene Pumpkin Festival.

Each October, thousands of carved pumpkins fill the town of Keene and light up the night. Keene broke the first World Record for the most lit jack-o-lanterns in 1992, 1993 and 1994. In 2003, they broke the World Record for the 8th time with 28,952 lit jack-o-lanterns. This year, the event is being held Saturday, October 22, Noon-8:30 pm in Downtown Keene. The price is free to the public, but the town welcomes donations to help keep the event alive. This year, they have a food court set up with local vendors selling items like chili, fried dough, salad wraps and pumpkin pie. The food court will be set up so that viewing of the amazing pumpkins can be seen while you are enjoying some local food.

New Hampshire’s changing of the leaves display is an incredible show all it’s own which attracts people from all over the country. It’s said that New Hampshire and parts of China are the two of the best places on Earth to see such vibrant and vivid colors. Bright orange sugar maples, deep red swamp maples, gleeming yellow birches and copper leaved oaks all combine to weave a beautiful panorama. Spectacular trees among thousands of bright orange pumpkins will truly be a site to remember.

Apple farms are abundant in New Hampshire and October is a prime month for picking red apples. After a fun-filled day of picking out the best apples you can find, go back to your Bluegreen resort and enjoy some fresh made apple pie or a delicious caramel or candy apple. The apple farms also sell the most spicy apple cider you have ever tasted. Most of the apple farms also have maple trees and if you haven’t ever had maple syrup straight from the spicket of a tree, it’s one of the most wonderful things on earth.

Book your vacation resort today at a Bluegreen Corporation resort in New Hampshire, and go watch Keene set another World Record for the most carved pumpkins in one town! If it’s possible for you, enter the event and become part of history in the making. Northern New England is a site to see in the fall!

There is a good article posted on Tours.com recounting the changes the Department of Transportation is putting into effect January 24, 2012, as well as changes that are in effect today. The DOT is going to enact a series of regulations that will make booking a ticket more transparent for passengers. Travel agents have been busily attending seminars and webinars updating themselves on the changes to assist travelers with questions.

One of the changes to take place is that airlines must disclose baggage fees on e-ticket confirmations. The break down of baggage fees are necessary because the DOT has already enacted a policy that if a passenger’s bag is lost, he or she is entitled to a refund of any fee charged for carrying that bag. Airlines will also continue to compensate passengers for reasonable expenses for loss, damage or delay incurred in the carriage of passenger baggage.

Airlines must also disclose all optional fees on their websites, including but not limited to fees for meals, canceling or changing reservations, or advanced or upgraded seating. Right now, some airlines ask you to complete advanced seating before moving on to the next step in booking. Moving forward, if an airline charges you for the “convenience” of pre-arranged seating, they need to let you know if there is a cost associated with that.

The article is full of good information for travel agents and passengers alike. If you are traveling soon for business or pleasure, try staying in a Bluegreen Corporation resort. The resorts are conveniently located throughout the U.S. and service is their utmost priority. If you would like to read the full article on the changes being implemented by the DOT, go to Tours.com.

The number one city picked this year is New Orleans! With all of the new building happening post Katrina, some great new neighborhood cafes have opened up along with spots such as Meson 923, located in the new Warehouse District, that serve up mouth watering ethnic foods. So on top of all the street parties and the music scene, New Orleans can now boast of their food as well. Bluegreen resort Club La Pension is on Decatur Street, located at the edge of the French Quarter and within walking distance of the city’s attractions, restaurants and shops. In this prime location, you’re right next to the fabulous food, nightlife and renowned eccentric culture of the Big Easy. The resort is closed until February, 2012 while reconstruction is finished, but next spring, the resort is expected to be ready for business.

The number two city chosen this year is San Francisco. San Franciso has Baker and Banker in Pacific Heights and Off the Grid, a mobile truck that circles weekly in different parts of town. San Francisco also scored in the top 5 for ethnic fare, coffee bars, and farmers’ markets. The newest hot trend right now is grilled cheese sandwiches, and there are food trucks and brick and morter restaurants serving up some fantastic variations such as toasted rye bread, with apple and gouda cheese. Wash this down with some sparkling water, and your taste buds will have died and gone to heaven.

The number three winner this year is Providence. For Rhode Island foodies, farm-to-table and boat-to-table is all the rage. Travel and Leisure is recommending Chez Pascal on Hope Street, or Nick’s on Broadway, in the West End for boat-to-table seafood. Providence also grills their pizza, rather than baking it, for extra bubbly goodness.

It can be difficult to eat healthy while you are traveling for business or on vacation but there are a few tricks of the trade that can help you make healthy choices. The most important part of eating healthy is to plan ahead and be prepared. Taking along a collapsible cooler or a soft shell thermal lunch bag will help you stock up on vegetables, fruits and water while keeping them cool and fresh. Wash and pre-cut your produce so that it is bite size and you will not need plates or utensils.

If you are travelling on a plane, purchase your snacks before you get to the airport and pack them in a thermal lunch bag that can fit into your purse. Choose items like apples or pears, carrot sticks, low-fat cheese slices for protein, or whole wheat crackers. The idea is to stick with foods that deliver a lot of nutrition for fewer calories. Eating natural foods, rather than processed foods, will keep you more alert and clear headed while travelling.
If you are travelling in a car and bringing your own beverages, pack water rather than soda or juice. Purchase water above all other beverages, but if you need a shot of caffeine, choose coffee over soda. The empty sugar calories in soda will give you an energy burst at first, but leave you groggy and cranky when the sugar makes you crash. When you stop off at a convenience store to re-load on supplies, buy the most natural items you can with the lowest amount of sodium and sugar such as fruit, dry roasted almonds or pumpkin seeds. Beware of granola bars claiming to be healthy but really just candy bars with rolled oats in them. Always read the ingredients in so called healthy foods like yogurt as hidden sugars can de-rail the best dieting intentions.

If you are staying in a Bluegreen Corporation resort, your resort will most likely have a kitchenette in the room or a restaurant on site. If you do have a kitchenette, this will make eating healthy a lot more easy as you can keep fresh produce and healthy meats like fish and chicken in the refrigerator. Bluegreen resorts are conveniently located to most amenities, so finding the local grocery store should be fairly straight forward. If your resort does not have a kitchenette but has a restaurant, try to order a salad with your dinner as the salad will fill you up and deter you from ordering desert.

Whenever you are traveling, try to plan your menu options for the day ahead of time so that you do not make poor choices on the plane, in the car, at the resort, or out at a restaurant. Planning your diet for the day will help you stay on track and mindful of what you are consuming. For more healthy eating tips while travelling, go to About.com.

Storing this information for travel agents will not only reduce the need for clients to repeat personal information to each travel agent they work with, but will also provide a layer of safety for travelers by providing alternative contact information such as employer information or secondary contacts. The new software is secure, so your information is deemed safe.

Bluegreen Corporation resorts store client information as well to inform visitors of special rate offers and current local events. Bluegreen resorts work with travel agents to meet guest requests for everything ranging from meeting halls, tours, special health needs, diet restrictions and more. Staying connected on vacation is much easier today with all of the advances in travel applications on iPhones and iPads. Each Bluegreen resort has wi-fi available to help you stay connected.

The benefits to the employer are there as well. According to a Maritz poll released this last summer, only 12% of employees today believe they matter to the company. A bonus like a free trip goes a long way to tell the employee they are valued. Studies also indicated that for every one dollar spent on incentive travel, up to five dollars is returned to the company bottom line through greater production from the employee.

Bluegreen Corporation resorts are great locations for employee incentive based vacations. They are equipped with wi-fi, work-out rooms, pools and are conveniently located to local restaurants and entertainment. Some resorts are big enough to host conferences if groups are traveling as well. Talk to the concierge to see what kind of group arrangements can be made for your employees.
